Michael van den Ham
a.k.a. Mike, Bike Mike, Ham, MVDH
I’ve ridden bikes for as long as he can remember. Growing up I saved up and bought my first real bike (well, half of it) when I was 11. A couple years and a lot of lawn mowing later I bought another. And then another. I printed out sheets from the Park Tools website and learned how to fix them. At 16 I started working in a bike shop. At 17 I entered and won his first race. I've loved racing bicycles ever since.
Cyclocross came along a few years later. In 2010 I moved to Edmonton for University. The first day I was there he dragged his Mom to just about every bike shop in the city looking for a cheap cyclocross frame. Within a couple weeks I found one, ripped all the parts off his road bike, and was hooked.
Fast-forward a few years and I’ve gradually worked my way through the cyclocross ranks. I've represented Canada 8 timres at the World Championships, won an under-23 National Championship (2013), won 3 Elite nationals earned a 2 podiums at the Pan Am Championships ), and am currently the top ranked rider in Canada.
Off the bike (welll … still on the bike!), I work as a cycling coach for Cycle-Smart Inc as well as am the head MTB coach for the DEVO youth club in Vancouver.
